Accommodated Exams for DSS-registered Students
The 91ÖÆƬ³§ Testing Center (MTC) is available to support students with approved alternative testing accommodations for in-person exams and proctored in-class online exams. Students taking online exams do not have to use the MTC if accommodated for in the online format. ÌýAccommodations for online exams can be achieved in a variety of ways.Ìý Please consult Ìýfor guidance.
We ask that faculty remain flexible when students need to take exams outside of their regular class time due to student schedule conflicts and Testing Center operations (e.g. occupancy or availability of private testing rooms).Ìý In such instances, the Testing Center is authorized to schedule the accommodated exam as soon as possible within three business days (five in special circumstances) of the regularly scheduled exam.
The AIM Process
Students with testing accommodations will initiate this process by submitting exam requests through AIM.Ìý Faculty will be notified via email and asked to complete aÌýTesting AgreementÌýfor the course.Ìý Only one Testing Agreement is needed per course section. Faculty will receive an email confirming the date and time of the exam. Please see theÌýAIM Faculty Procedures Document for more details.Ìý
For further guidance on using AIM, please refer to the Faculty section of our page of AIM user guides.
Providing Your Exam to the MTC
To ensure the MTC has enough time to print and prepare exams for students, it is highly encouraged that faculty upload or drop off paper versions of exams at leastÌý2 business daysÌýprior to the exam date. If the MTC needs to prepare exam files for text-to-speech, we will email faculty asking that the electronic version of the exam is uploaded as soon as possible so we have enough time to prepare the file.
- The preferred method of providing exams to MTC is uploading exam file(s) to AIM.
- Paper copies of exams can be dropped off at the MTC during regular business hours (Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm)
During the Exam
The MTC has a staff of proctors. Proctors are trained on policies, procedures, and upholding the academic integrity of each exam.Ìý
If a student has a question about the exam while testing, MTC staff will contact you on behalf of the student. On the Testing Agreement form, please provide contact information.
Faculty can email test corrections and additional information to the MTC’s secure email: testingcenter@mines.edu.
Expanded Proctoring Support
The MTC currently does not provide proctoring for students who do not have approved exam accommodations through DSS.
